Holy Tweet!

msnbcInteresting article on churches and social media posted on msnbc.com today. And not just because I’m quoted all over it. It’s amazing to read about clergy and parishioners who tweet duringthe service. There’s a reason it’s called a “sanctuary,” folks. Time apart from cell phones, Twitter, and Facebook (even for just an hour) is like a mini-retreat in today’s world. I may just have to carry out my threat to purchase that cell phone jammer for my church.

This is something I’ve seen discussed all over the web in the past couple of days. But who in their right mind would do that in church?

Excellent question. I think social media can keep people connected but not DURING church! We’re supposed to be connecting to, um, God during worship don’t you think? I like to use it outside of the context of Sunday morning to remind people that God is present in our lives throughout the week and not just for one hour on the weekend.
